How it works
Is Build a Footballer free?
Yes, completely free. No paywall, no ads, no hidden costs. You can draft, simulate, and download cards as many times as you want.
Do I need to sign up or create an account?
No. There is no login, no account, and no email required. Everything works in your browser. Your draft progress is saved locally on your device.
How does the draft work?
Each round, you spin a club-era pool (e.g., "Barcelona 2008-2012"), see 3-5 real players, pick one, and steal exactly one trait. You repeat this 12 times, filling all 12 trait categories. You can't take the same category twice.
What are the 12 traits?
Pace (PAC), Finishing (FIN), Shooting (SHO), Passing (PAS), Vision (VIS), Dribbling (DRI), Crossing (CRS), Defending (DEF), Physical (PHY), Stamina (STA), Weak Foot (WF), and Clutch (CLU). Each trait is rated 1-99; WF and CLU are rated 1-5.
Can I put my own face on my player card?
Yes. Before starting a draft you can upload a selfie, and we cartoonize it in your browser to use as your card avatar. The photo is processed 100% locally — it never leaves your device, is never uploaded to our servers, and is never stored. If you don't upload a photo, your card uses a generated pixel avatar instead.
Data & Privacy
What data do you collect?
Very little. We store leaderboard display names and scores (submitted voluntarily). Your drafts and game progress stay in your browser. We don't collect emails, passwords, or payment info. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Do you store or upload my photo if I add one to my card?
No. The photo-to-cartoon feature runs entirely in your browser using Canvas. Your photo is never uploaded, stored, logged, or used for training. It exists only in your browser's memory for that session and disappears when you close the page.
Can I play offline?
The game runs entirely in your browser. Draft and sim work without internet. You only need connectivity for leaderboard submissions and share link resolution.

Is this affiliated with FIFA or EA Sports?
No. Build a Footballer is an independent fan-made simulator. We are not affiliated with FIFA, EA Sports, or any official football organization. All ratings are original fictional gameplay values.
Are real player names used?
Yes — real player names are used as factual references for fantasy draft identification. No real portraits, official photos, or club logos are used. Card artwork is original illustration.
